About Flag Theme

Flag Theme is a free, open-source project that generates browser themes from the colors of country flags. Every palette is derived from real flag colors and validated against WCAG contrast guidelines so text stays readable in every mode.

The generator produces 10 design tokens — background, surface, text, accent, border, and more — in Dark, Light, and AMOLED modes. Colors are adjusted using OKLCH perceptual color math, keeping the original flag character while meeting accessibility requirements. Themes work in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Brave, with live preview and one-click apply via the browser extension.

Designers and developers can export tokens in five formats: CSS custom properties, Tailwind config, shadcn/ui theme variables, Tokens Studio (DTCG) JSON, and a full JSON report with WCAG contrast ratios. The extension auto-detects your browser locale and suggests a matching theme. Everything runs locally with zero network requests and zero data collection.
